Naturalis Energy Developments Ltd has developed proposals for a wind farm with the potential for solar and battery storage on site, on the southern edge of the North Kyle forest between Patna and Rankinston. The proposed site for Knockkippen wind farm, overlooks several former opencast mines.

Between 1849 and 1965 there were around 52 ironstone and coal mines in the Patna area and mining was the mainstay of the local economy but subsequent pit closures have adversely impacted on local employment and economy.

This renewable energy project will help the local – and Scottish economy – to meet its zero carbon target by 2045, generating clean, green energy from nature.

This plant consists of a field with photovoltaic panels to convert solar energy into electric energy, a system that converts the electrical current from direct to alternating at the grid frequency, and a transformer to increase the voltage generated to the grid voltage, all of which are integrated with protective devices. The plant is “grid connected,” namely, it is connected to the public distribution network into which the energy produced is supplied, so there is no need to install electricity accumulators. The photovoltaic modules will consist of 1,512 polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic cells with stable performance over time and a high return. The cells are installed on a biaxial tracker. CO2 savings: 751 tons/year

The photovoltaic system is developed in the territory within the municipality of Pozzolo Formigaro (AL), north of the town of Pozzolo Formigaro and on the border with the municipality of Tortona (AL), has a total rated power of 46.8 MW and consists of n.74,952 photovoltaic modules installed on monoaxial solar trackers.
The photovoltaic component will be supplemented by an agricultural project that involves the planting of an intensive multi-varietal hazelnut thand the constitution of a stable lawn used as throughout the year.

Lambrigg Wind farm can be seen from Junction 37 of the M6, adjacent to Lambrigg Fell, a grassy moorland just outside of Kendal in Cumbria. The Wind Farm comprises 5 wind turbines each rated at 1.3 MW with an overall site capacity of 6.5 MW, and has been operational since September 2000.

South Lakeland District Council have approved a planning application to extend the planning consent for Lambrigg Wind Farm by an additional 10-years.
